Why occasions need a different kind of planning
When a trip is built around one important day, small things carry more weight: whether the restaurant offers a private room, whether a viewpoint is crowded at sunset, whether a surprise is even allowed at a venue, how far the hotel is from dinner in the rain. Japanese venues are often generous with special requests when they are asked properly and in advance — and inflexible when they are not.
We plan the occasion first and build the rest of the trip around it, so the celebration day has room to breathe and the days before and after support it.
Etiquette and practical limits
Shrines, temples and many gardens have rules about photography, tripods, drones and staged events; some require permission, and some simply aren’t appropriate for a proposal. Restaurants vary widely in whether they accept outside cakes, flowers or decorations. Certain dates — cherry blossom season, Christmas Eve in Tokyo, which is a popular date night in Japan, and holiday periods — book out early.
We are honest about what is realistic. Where something isn’t possible, we suggest an alternative that respects the place and still feels special.

- Can you plan a surprise proposal in Japan?
- Yes, as part of Bespoke special event planning. We help choose a setting that is appropriate and realistic, plan the timing and coordinate supported reservations or providers such as a photographer where available.
- Can restaurants prepare something for an anniversary or birthday?
- Many can, when asked in advance — a message, a dessert plate or a cake. It depends on the restaurant, and we confirm what is possible rather than promise it.
- Is there a different fee for groups?
- Not when the group shares the same itinerary, activities and services. The Group Plan add-on applies only when individual guests need different planning or reservations.
- How far ahead should we plan a celebration trip?
- Three to six months is ideal for peak seasons or a specific restaurant. Around eight to twelve weeks is workable for most trips.
