DINING IN JAPAN

The right table, on the right night of your trip.

Food is often the reason people come to Japan — and the hardest part to plan from abroad. Many of the best restaurants are small, book in Japanese, and ask for cards or deposits to hold a seat. Glow Japan chooses restaurants for the kind of evening you want, coordinates reservations where the restaurant allows, and places each meal sensibly in your itinerary.

WHAT WE CAN ARRANGE

Planned around you, coordinated for you.

Restaurant curation

Counter dining, kaiseki, izakaya and neighbourhood favourites chosen for atmosphere, quality and fit — not only reputation.

Dietary needs, communicated

Allergies, vegetarian preferences and things you’d rather not eat passed on clearly in advance, and honest advice when a restaurant can’t accommodate them.

Dining that fits the route

Lunches near the morning’s sights, dinners near the hotel on long days, and room left for evenings of wandering.

Why dining in Japan benefits from planning

Japan has an extraordinary range of restaurants, and many of the most rewarding are tiny: eight seats at a counter, one or two sittings a night. Some take reservations only by phone or through Japanese-language systems; some work with hotel concierges or booking platforms; some require a credit card guarantee or prepayment and charge cancellation fees close to the date. Others don’t take reservations at all.

None of this is difficult once you know it, but it is easy to spend hours on it from abroad, or to arrive at a restaurant that isn’t right for the evening you had in mind.

How we choose

We start with how you like to eat: long tasting menus or relaxed plates, quiet counters or lively rooms, how adventurous you are, and how much of the trip should revolve around food. Then we suggest a mix — one or two special dinners, simpler meals that are just as memorable, and places that make sense for where you are that day.

We are honest about availability. The most famous restaurants are booked far ahead and not every reservation can be secured; we will tell you what is realistic and suggest excellent alternatives rather than promise a table we cannot confirm.

What is and isn’t included

Glow Japan’s planning fee covers the research, selection and reservation coordination. Meals, deposits and any cancellation fees are paid to the restaurant under its own terms. Dining planning is part of every plan; Signature and Elite include enhanced dining planning and fuller reservation coordination across your trip.

Who this is for

Questions travelers ask

Can you get a table at any restaurant in Japan?
No one can honestly promise that. Some restaurants are booked months ahead or only accept certain channels. We coordinate reservations where the restaurant allows and suggest strong alternatives when a first choice isn’t available.
Do I pay for meals through Glow Japan?
No. Meals, deposits and any cancellation fees are paid to the restaurant under its own terms. Our fee covers planning and coordination.
Can you handle allergies and dietary requirements?
We pass them on clearly in advance and tell you honestly when a restaurant cannot accommodate them. Some traditional menus, such as set kaiseki or omakase, have limited flexibility.
How far ahead should we plan dining?
For sought-after restaurants, as early as possible — booking windows vary by restaurant. Around eight to twelve weeks before travel is a good time to begin for most trips.
